About the ZakatIQ App

What exactly is the ZakatIQ App?

It is a new type of comprehensive Zakat Calculator that streamlines the entire Zakat process. It is a must-have tool for anyone who wants to calculate Zakat accurately.

Why do I need the ZakatIQ app?

The vast majority of people still guesstimate or use paper and pencil to determine their annual Zakat. Both of these have a much higher probability of mistakes. The ZakatIQ app will walk you through the entire Zakat process, help reduce errors, and help you calculate Zakat according to the opinions of leading Scholars.

How is the ZakatIQ app different than other apps and calculators?

Most Zakat apps and calculators only provide a high-level skeleton framework solution; 6-8 high-level inputs, and they leave the entire data gathering, calculation, and disbursement steps for the users to navigate on their own. ZakatIQ, on the other hand, provides a complete solution, unlike any other App.

Why do I have to pay for the ZakatIQ app?

A lot of effort and investment has gone into the development of this App, and like every other organization, we also have monthly operating expenses that need to be covered.

Is my information going to be secure in the ZakatIQ app?

We have taken multiple security measures; our website uses the latest SSL version, we use two-factor authentification, password hashing, and AWS Aurora serverless encryption, among other things, to protect user information.

Using the ZakatIQ app

Some parts of the App don't show correctly on my screen?

We have tried our best to cater to all types and sizes of screens and devices. If things don’t look right on your particular screen or device for some reason, we would recommend trying it on another larger screen or a newer device. We would also suggest checking you have the latest version of the required software installed (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.)

Why are the tiles/buttons of different colors on the dashboard?

The blue tiles are part of the data gathering process, while the yellow tiles are part of the Zakat calculation and donation process. The data gathering process is an integral part of Zakat calculation. It is often the area most people error in by overlooking assets, savings, and investments they may have. That is why we have purposely divided it into ten smaller, manageable steps.

How do I get started with my Zakat Calculation?

Start by entering your information by working through the blue data gathering tiles. Once done with data gathering, proceed to the yellow Zakat calculation and donation tiles. If your base currency is not US dollars or if you have not already entered your ‘Last Zakat Paid Date’, you can do that from the My Profile page in the User profile menu in top right corner of your screen.

Why is my Zakat Balance Due not showing in the Dashboard?

This is most likely because you have still not entered your ‘Last Zakat Paid Date’. You can do this from the My Profile page in the User profile menu in top right corner of your screen.

How do I change the default currency?

You can do this from the My Profile page in the User profile menu in top right corner of your screen.

Do I have to enter my information in any particular order?

No, you can enter your information by working through the blue data gathering tiles in whatever order you find easy.

Can I import my data into the App?

Presently, we only allow users to export data from the App. We may offer the import options in future releases.

The option(s) I used in the past for my Zakat calculation are not there?

We have tried to incorporate most mainstream scholar opinions, but there are thousands of Scholars with varying opinions, and it is next to impossible to include all of them. If there is a particular mainstream opinion, you think we overlooked, please inform us. We will try to incorporate it in future releases.

Why doesn't the ZakatIQ app have the opinion(s) of my Scholar, &/or Imam?

There are hundreds if not thousands of Scholars/Imams, and it is not possible to have all of them on our platform. However, we intend to add more Scholar pre-sets in future releases. If your Scholar/Imam would like to be added, please ask them to reach out to us.

Why is my Zakat rate not 2.5%?

The Zakat rate is 2.5% for a lunar year, but if your previous Zakat calculation date was over a lunar year, then your Zakat rate will increase correspondingly. Suppose your previous Zakat calculation date is incorrect in the App. In that case, you can change it by going to the ‘My Profile’ option in the ‘User Profile’ menu in the top right corner of the screen.

I reset my calculation; can you help me retrieve it?

We are very sorry, but reset and deleted data can not be retrieved. Once a user resets or deletes their data, it erases it entirely from our database, and there is no way for us to bring it back.

What are Finalized saved calculations?

The App allows multiple Zakat calculations to be saved for a year. This salient feature allows one subscription to be used for the entire household (yourself, parents, spouse). However, to keep a track of Zakat due balances and Zakat distributions for the subscriber, one calculation needs to be identified as the last and final calculation.

I accidentally deleted a saved Zakat calculation; can you please restore it?

Unfortunately, that is not possible. Once something is deleted from the App for user privacy reasons, we immediately delete all copies of it from our database. However, if you have another similar saved calculation for the same year, you can quickly recalculate the deleted calculation.

Can I link the App with my Bank or some other service providers?

Currently, this is not possible, but wee may add this feature in future releases.

Why don't I see a link to my favorite charity in the Donate section?

Currently, we have only provided links to a few of the larger and better-rated Charities in the US. There are thousands of charitable organizations, and it is challenging to carry out proper due diligence on all of them. That is why we have relied upon the ratings and information provided by Charity NavigatorGive, and Guidestar for our list. If your favorite charity would like to be added to our App, please ask them to reach out to us.

Why do I get billed on an annual basis?

The subscription amount is so small that it only makes sense from an administrative and accounting perspective to bill on an annual basis.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription by downgrading it to a free Lite subscription from the ‘My Subscription.’ option in the ‘User Profile’ menu in the top right corner of the screen. You can also delete all your data by clicking on ‘Reset this Calculation.’ on the Dashboard and deleting all your previous calculations from the ‘Saved Calculation’ section.
